Alfredo Benavides!
Growing up in El Salvador, Alfredo graduated from high school and became a licensed truck driver when he moved to the United States. He counts the birth of his three children among his proudest moments and is motivated to help each of them achieve their shared goal of attending college. Alfredo has always seen college as the ultimate goal for all three of his children and is thankful that he now has the resources to make this dream into a reality.
Alfredo’s oldest son, Anthony, is a sophomore in high school and a La Vida Scholar; one of our partner organizations. Anthony’s participation in La Vida allowed Alfredo to begin saving and attending Learning Circles. Alfredo’s favorite workshop so far has been Public vs. Private Loans, where he learned that not all loans are created equal: loans from private sources, like banks, often have higher interest rates than federal loans, and should be a last resort. In addition to the helpful advice he learns during monthly workshops, Alfredo hopes that Inversant will give him the tools he needs to help Anthony find the best school for him—and the school with the best financial aid package for his family.
Alfredo’s top tip for other Inversant parents like himself is to start saving now—not tomorrow, not next month, not when it’s more convenient! He shares that he didn’t know how to start before joining Inversant, but that saving early has helped reduce stress for him and his family. Alfredo knows that saving a little money over time, rather than putting it off, will help his children throughout their college careers.
