Edith Gutierrez!
Edith Gutierrez always knew she wanted the best education for her kids but she wasn’t sure how to get them there. Saving for college was something Edith had rarely thought about. She joined the Inversant family when her daughter Alexandra joined our partner La Vida Scholars in Lynn. After Alexandra graduated in 2012, Edith continued the program with her son Luis also through La Vida. Edith says, “I enjoy the workshops I attend every month, it teaches me how to help my kids throughout the college process. I’ve learned about different scholarships, applications I had to fill out like the FAFSA and deadlines for all these.”
Edith’s family comes from El Salvador where it is difficult to obtain higher education. She tells us that she was fortunate enough to study architecture for two years but was unable to graduate. Her husband obtained a degree in accounting in El Salvador but it is invalid in this country. Edith hopes her children reach their highest potential so that they can do something they love and live a comfortable life. She shares that Alexandra will continue to study social work at Salem State University this upcoming fall and Luis will be taking on a summer job as well as taking SAT prep courses. We know these kids are well on their way to success!
