Congrats to Our January Sweepstakes Winner, Megan O’Connell!

Megan has always been confident that college is in the cards for her two children, John (5thgrade) and Elizabeth (3rd grade), both of whom attend school in Salem. As is true for many families, Megan knew it was crucial to saving for college but hadn’t started saving on her own until she came across a post about Inversant on Facebook. She went to our website to find who to call, and Rochelly our Inversant facilitator, helped her get an account set up.

Since she joined the program in 2015, Megan uses direct deposit to make contributions to her Metro account. Because the money is automatically transferred in a small and manageable amount each month, Megan says, “it’s money I don’t see, so I don’t miss it. It’s encouraging to see the amount add up, and you’ll be surprised at how much you can save over time.” As she continues to save up, she shares, “Every time I get a bank statement, I celebrate the increment with my kids so they know this money is for their college.”

Although her children aren’t thinking about college yet, Megan enjoys participating through the monthly newsletters she receives. Some of the information is a refresher for her, and helps her feel more confident and secure in what she knows; other material is new to her and helps her feel supported and encouraged to keep participating. Megan attended college herself, and currently works in higher education administration, so she sees firsthand the payoffs of a quality education; she knows a college education will help her children reach their full potential and will give them the options to find a career path they enjoy.

So what do John and Elizabeth want to do when they grow up? Right now, John is thinking about careers in technology, including computer engineering, and his younger sister wants to be a teacher. We wish Megan and her family the best of luck!

Don’t miss your chance to win the next $100 sweepstakes! You have until March 31 to submit your answers to March’s survey. E-mail [email protected] if you have not received our newsletters or sweepstake surveys. For more details please visit www.inversant.org/sweepstakes.
